So, “sustainability,” I know, a word you hear a lot these days

Here’s my story on why it matters to me…

I grew up in Southern California, as a lover of the outdoors, the ocean and the trees. I will never forget the day my mom took me on a field trip, as a young girl scout, to experience Tree People. I absolutely fell in love with the trees there. A sapling pine tree was gifted to us by the Tree People in a milk carton and over 30 years later, she still stands strong in the backyard of my childhood home. I share a warm memory of planting this tree with my mom, tending to it and watching it grow tall over the years – and I know it will live long past both of our lifetimes. I also fondly recall that as a family, we went to the beach on weekends, and my brother and I would spend the entire day playing in the waves. The ocean is definitely my happy place. Across my whole life, there’ve been points and threads of deep connection to nature, and an urge for tending to the well-being of our environment.

A little later, I started modeling and traveled the world, living in Asia for a year. This experience opened my eyes to so much; a new culture I knew nothing about. It was exciting and scary and I was in complete awe of this new world. To see that we were all connected even while being thousands of miles apart was a massive eye-opener for me.

My love of storytelling and the human experience prompted me to focus my attention on acting when I returned home and I studied for many years with some of the best teachers. After working in film and TV, including the movie F6: Twister about a category 6 tornado (they don’t exist…yet) I started to work a lot as a host. Doing live red carpet events emceeing and becoming a spokesperson, I decided to pivot my skill-set into my passion. I started doing “green” carpet events, live interviews, emceeing and covering events in all areas of the green movement.

In June 2014, I embarked on a 21-day plastic pollution research expedition with the 5 Gyres Institute, sailing from Bermuda to Iceland. While there, I collected water samples from both the sub-tropical and sub-polar North Atlantic Gyre, as a working crew member. It was a peak experience that alerted me like a “code red” to the harm of the five trillion pieces of plastic particles floating in our world’s oceans. This journey showed me I was on the right path with such a deep connection to the ocean.

Now I am a committed 5 Gyres Plastic Pollution Ambassador, and a Climate Reality Leader under VP Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. I became an advocate and authority for sustainable living. I have covered events such as TED, SXSWEco, and The Environmental Media Awards. I’ve been a Speaker & Emcee for Green America’s Green Festivals, Take Back Your Health and Sustainable Works, and nominated multiple times for a Sustainable Business Council Award.

I’ve also found my voice as a journalist, writing for CocoEco Magazine, LA Yoga, and Planet Experts, and today, collaborating and working with brands such as: LA Relaxed, NatraCare, and Ecos. I’m also a Good Human founding brand ambassador, a place that gives you a one-stop shop for all things sustainable.

It’s important to me to lead by example.

Armed with my experience and passion, I’ve launched my podcast, GREEN WITH TIFFANY, bringing you authentic conversations with who I consider Earth-wise: founders of consumer brands, non-profit leaders, celebrities, fashion figures, well-being experts, and clean-tech entrepreneurs. I go deeply into their Earth-conscious practices, the science, innovations sharing their stories, solutions and optimism with you.

My goal is to give you a guiding hand to living a more vibrantly healthy life, encouraging all of us to #ChoosetoCare because what’s good for you is good for the planet.
