Angela Sun’s passion for storytelling and love for the oceans led to the creation of her first independent feature documentary, “PLASTIC PARADISE: THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH”. Angela directed & executive produced the film which has received critical praise and won 13 awards worldwide and been in over 40 film festivals, with supporters such as former VP Al Gore, Bette Midler, Jackson Browne, and Forest Whitaker sharing about it on social media. The film helped start a #plasticparadise social media movement of thousands worldwide taking the pledge to say no to single-use plastics. Angela was most recently an anchor and producer for Spectrum News 1 in Los Angeles where she was nominated for two Emmys in 2020. She writes about ocean issues, sustainability, wellness and travel on chasingasun.com
She was also Emmy-nominated for her hosting work on NBC’s national travel/lifestyle newsmagazine ‘LXTV 1st Look’.
Angela is currently a producer and correspondent for NBC California Live.
A Bay Area Native from Silicon Valley, she is a graduate of UCLA. After losing her father to cancer during college, Angela vowed to embrace and experience every moment fully; passionately encouraging others to chase their wanderlust (and to be her travel buddies!). She studied abroad at the University of New South Wales in Sydney and Shandong University in China and has traveled to over 70 countries and Angela has conducted field research on the Great Barrier Reef focusing on reef sharks as well as surveying coral in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand, and helped with coral restoration in French Polynesia. She is an avid surfer and scuba diver, a citizen marine biologist for Reef Check.
Angela has appeared in USA Today, TEDx, Fox Business, NY Times, Maxim, Bleacher Report, Salon.com, Answers.com, Forbes, Audrey Magazine, Men’s Fitness, The UK Sunday Times, Wall Street Journal, the cover of Experience Life Magazine and more.
