Installing a programmable thermostat can save you a lot of cash on your utility bills. When you get one of these thermostats you help regulate the temperatures for your home during both the winter and summer months. You could also make them regulate temperatures during day and night hours.

An easy way to conserve electricity would be to select lighter colors for your room walls. Darker wall colors require more light–and therefore more electricity–to feel bright, so a home full of dark-colored walls is not at its greenest. Choose lighter colors so you don’t need as much electricity for lighting.

Storm doors and storm windows help to better control air flow in the home. Storm windows are good at cutting down on the cool air that tries to get in. Homes equipped with storm windows and doors can see an increase in energy efficiency of up to 45 percent.

You may be able to put in a shower head that saves water. This will give you the same feel that your traditional shower head offers, but save you a substantial amount of water. This will immediatly give you a lower water bill, and you will be benefiting the planet.

If you are in the market for wooden items, try bamboo wood. Bamboo is technically grass and is a “green product”, but it is often much stronger than other available woods. It is a fast grower, and can be made into many different products like cutting boards to flooring, which you can purchase. This saves energy via recycling and manufacturer production.

If you are someone who is seeking out ways to live green so you can help save the planet’s energy, there’s a lot you can do. You might not be capable of spending lots of money in going green, but there are simple things that you could do such as cleaning your furnace’s filters each month or by setting your heat at sixty degrees when you are not at home. Setting your water heater to 120 F will also be an energy saver. Even small steps that you take can add up to a big difference!

Buy rechargeable batteries for your electronics. Traditional batteries end up in landfills. Save yourself some money and do the environment a favor when you recharge your batteries. Rechargeable batteries can save you hundreds of dollars over their life span!

Cover your windows if you’re not going to be home. This allows your home to be kept cool when you aren’t there, and in addition, it helps keep energy costs down. Typically, the south facing windows are the ones that get the most amount of sun due to their location. Cover all of these windows with curtains, blinds or roller shades.

By implementing some of these simple green energy tips, you will be able to save money and keep the environment healthier, as well. Green energy is wonderful for money savings, and this article’s tips will help you see how easy it can be to implement these changes
